About Our Club

We are a dedicated community of survivors, carers, volunteers, and supporters united by compassion.

Who We Are

The Carmarthen Stroke Club is a registered charity (No. 1211769) based in the beautiful village of Laugharne, Carmarthenshire. Founded over 15 years ago with the vision of ensuring no stroke survivor has to face recovery alone, we have grown into a vibrant support network serving the wider Carmarthen area.

We understand that a stroke changes lives in an instant—not just for the survivor, but for their entire family. Our club exists to bridge the gap between hospital discharge and returning to a fulfilling life. We provide the ongoing support, companionship, and practical help that makes all the difference during recovery.

Our Core Objectives

  • To provide relief and support to stroke survivors through peer support and community activities.
  • To support families and carers through advice, respite opportunities, and carer networks.
  • To provide recreational activities that improve social welfare and quality of life.
  • To raise awareness of stroke prevention and recovery in our local community.

Our Values

Compassion

We approach every member with empathy, understanding, and genuine care. We recognize that every stroke journey is unique.

Community

We believe in the power of connection. Together, we are stronger, more resilient, and more hopeful.

Inclusivity

Everyone is welcome at our club, regardless of the severity of their stroke, how long ago it occurred, or their personal circumstances.

Our Story

The Carmarthen Stroke Club was established in the early 2000s by a small group of stroke survivors and their families who recognized the need for ongoing community support beyond hospital care. What began as informal gatherings in members' homes has grown into a registered charity serving hundreds of people across Carmarthenshire.

Over the years, we've celebrated countless milestones—members regaining speech, learning to walk again, returning to hobbies they loved, and forming friendships that have lasted decades. We've also supported each other through difficult times, losses, and setbacks.

Today, we continue to be driven by the same founding principle: that no one should face life after stroke alone. We're proud of how far we've come, and excited about the future as we continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our members.
